Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed 40 per cent of its lighting replacement project across Dubai Metro stations and facilities, as part of efforts to improve energy efficiency and support sustainable operations.
So far, 17,880 conventional lighting units have been replaced with energy-efficient LED technology out of a planned total of 44,700 units.
The project is being carried out in collaboration with Keolis MHI, which operates and maintains Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram, to reduce energy consumption, maintenance costs and carbon emissions.
The first two phases covered footbridges and passenger and operational areas across the Red and Green Lines.
Work is now underway on the third phase, covering remaining facilities, including car parks, tunnels and power distribution stations.
The new LED lights can operate for up to 11 years, compared with around one year for conventional lighting, reducing maintenance requirements and improving reliability.
Once the project is completed in 2027, annual electricity consumption is expected to fall by more than 14 million kilowatt-hours, supporting Dubai’s wider sustainability goals
