The UAE delivered a joint statement at the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, on behalf of more than 91 countries, indicating that emerging technologies have the potential to serve as tools to provide sustainable solutions for disability inclusivity.
The statement stressed that the use of technology can enhance the participation and inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of life, helping to create a more inclusive and sustainable future.
It also explained that assistive technologies and AI-based tools can significantly enhance the learning, work and daily life experiences of people with disabilities, and stressed that these innovations also contribute to independence and building self-esteem, ensuring that people with disabilities can live full and meaningful lives in a society that respects their rights.
While acknowledging the enormous potential of new technologies, the statement called for the importance of addressing the challenges that these technologies may pose, and for the necessary measures to be taken so that the development of international standards leads to ensuring safety, efficiency and equitable access to new technologies, thus ensuring full respect for and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities.
The UAE stressed in the joint statement its call to intensify global efforts to integrate these people, while reaffirming the joint commitment towards them.
