There was some late drama in the game as the video assistant referee ruled out what would have been a winning goal for City.
Elsewhere, Liverpool cruised to a 4-1 win at Porto that saw them win the quarter-final tie 6-1 on aggregate.
The Premier League leaders will face Barcelona in the semi-final, while Tottenham will take on Ajax.
